Warrior Profile

United States Army Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg was injured October 1, 2009, when his platoon hit a roadside bomb in Afghanistan during his 10th deployment to the Middle East. Remsburg suffered a penetrating head wound with shrapnel lodged in his brain, sending him into a coma for over three years. After undergoing dozens of surgeries and years of rehabilitation, Remsburg has made a miraculous recovery; however, he is still blind in his right eye and partially paralyzed on his left side.

After hearing his incredible story, Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors (JAH4WW) teamed up with Lead The Way Fund, among others to help raise money and awareness to purchase and remodel Remsburg’s mortgage free home to be handicap accessible.

In March of 2014, Rembsurg was given the keys to his completely remodeled home, including a wheel in pool for rehab, therapeutic spa, a guest home for his caregiver, and a home automation system from Crestron accessible from Remsburg’s wheelchair.

In addition to JAH4WW and Lead The Way Fund, this project was also made possible because of large donations and grants from organizations such as RIDE 430, The Joshua Chamberlain SocietyWells FargoThe Home DepotBoeing, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
