Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors is proud to continue our partnership with KB Home, building another accessible home for a combat-wounded veteran. KB Home and their suppliers have gifted an accessible and mortgage-free home to Corporal Jonathan “Jonny” Flores and his beautiful family. This new home will ease his daily struggles and stresses, allowing him to recover and heal in a safe space built with his injuries in mind.

Corporal Jonathan Flores

Military Branch: United States Army
Location: Tampa, FL
Build Completion: September 14th, 2022

In 2007, now-retired US Army Cpl Jonathan “Jonny” Flores suffered multiple injuries to his body and brain in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle was hit with a pressure plate IED. He spent time at Walter Reed Medical Hospital and was medically retired on September 25, 2008. He returned to his hometown of Tampa, undergoing a series of surgeries and treatments at James A. Healy VA, the top hospital in the country for polytrauma. In 2019, severe nerve and tissue damage led to Jonny’s left leg amputation, and complications from the surgery left bone spurs in his residual limb, making a prosthetic too painful to wear. He wears an ankle-foot orthosis and knee brace on his right leg, so he is now wheelchair dependent.

Thanks to KB Homes and countless volunteers and vendors, Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors was able to show our thanks to Corporal Jonathan Flores for his service. With the commitment of our great community, we were able to build a customized, accessible home we proudly gifted to the Flores family.

We thank Corporal Flores for his sacrifices and hope his new home gives him the comfort and closeness his family deserves.

Warrior Story

There are heroes among us. Jonathan “Jonny” Flores is one of them. He was born in Hempstead, NY, and lived there till his early teens when his mom moved the family to Tampa, FL. Seeing the hardships his mom had to endure as a single parent, he looked to the military as a way to take control of his life and better himself. Jonny enlisted in the United States Army in 2005. In 2006, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. Unfortunately, his vehicle was hit with a pressure plate IED and small-arms fire during a routine combat patrol. Suffering multiple injuries to his brain and body, Jonny was rushed out of Baghdad to Germany, and eventually Walter Reed Medical Hospital in Washington, D.C.

In 2019, after years of rehab and medical procedures, doctors determined they needed to amputate Jonny’s leg due to severe nerve and tissue damage. Due to complications from bone spurs in his residual limb and pain from his prosthetic, Jonny found himself wheelchair dependent.

Jonny lived with his wife, child, and brother, where their home was not wheelchair accessible, and basic things like moving around, accessing the bathroom, and getting into the garage were very difficult. While he relies on a wheelchair to increase mobility, nothing slows him down. He is a member of a veteran support group, vice president of the Wounded Vets Association, peer mentor, and group facilitator for Veterans Peer Support group in Tampa, Jr. vice commander and Sgt. At Arms for the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ch. 87 Tampa, OIF OEF liaison for Avast (All Veteran of America Support Team), and assistant coordinator with Heroes on The Water Tampa Chapter.

Thanks to KB Homes and countless volunteers and vendors, Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors was able to show our gratitude to Corporal Jonathan Flores for his service. With the commitment of our great community, we were able to build a customized, accessible home we proudly gifted to the Flores family.

We thank Corporal Flores for his service and hope Jared Allen’s Home for Wounded Warriors can do its part in making his life even better.

Thank you for your service, CPL Flores!

We can’t thank enough, everyone involved in the completion of 18 homes, and counting, built for our nation’s most critically wounded veterans. Their strength and perseverance inspired this foundation, but it’s your support – from the beginning and through these tough times – that allows us to keep serving those who serve us.

From all of us at JAH4WW, thank you.
