Jared Allen And PFC Bullis Interview with CBS 5

By Amanda Hernandez

Jared Allen is best known for his moves on the football field playing for the Minnesota Vikings, but after a trip to visit troops serving overseas, he said he needed to find a way to truly say thank you. So two years ago he created Homes4 Wounded Warriors, a foundation that remodels homes to fit the needs of injured vets

This year the recipient of a home remodel is 22-year-old Joshua Bullis. The Army soldier lost his left leg and arm and eventually his right leg after stepping on an improvised explosive devise while serving in Afghanistan. The injuries forever changed his life, but it seems nothing can dampen his spirit.

“You always know it is a possibility when you go out there and unfortunately it happened to me, but I chose this, I signed up for it. I always knew it could happen, but now you just got to make the best of it,” said Bullis.

It is that full of life spirit that captured the attention of Allen and his foundation.

“The American dream, what is it? A home and a family, so if your home is a hindrance to you and you come home from fighting, you know, what was the point?”said Allen.

Bullis bought the Peoria home a few months ago, but thanks to the foundation, it now has bigger doorways and soon it will have a custom kitchen, bathrooms and new floors.

“The house is perfectly 100 percent set up for me, not only 50 percent or 60 percent. You know I have free range to move wherever I need to go, do whatever I need to do. It is just going to be a great feeling to be in my own house that is set up for me and live independently,” said Bullis.

The home should be ready by the end of the month just in time for Bullis to celebrate his 23rd birthday.
