Jared Allen Back in Minnesota for Groundbreaking Ceremony

Chicago Bears’ defensive end Jared Allen returned back to Minnesota on Thursday June 12, 2014 for his first groundbreaking for Wounded Warrior Sgt. Colin Faust. The groundbreaking of Faust’s soon to be new home took place between 10 a.m – 11 a.m. (CST) in Minnetrista, Minnesota.

After graduating from high school in 2007, Faust joined the United States Marines in 2009. In 2010, everything took a sudden turn. While on foot patrol in the northern Helmand Province of Afghanistan, he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), causing him to lose his left leg and severely injure his right leg and left arm. With the help of rehabilitation and the tremendous support of his family, he has made quite the recovery; however, he is still living in a small patio home in Mankato, Minnesota that is not suitable for his wheelchair.

Moved by his story and service, Jared Allen knew this was someone his foundation needed to assist. “We are pleased to finally break ground for Colin. It is with great honor that he served his country. Now, it’s our turn to repay him for his sacrifice,” said Allen. To which, Faust responded, “This means the world to me to have a home that I’m comfortable in and I can use my wheelchair. I’ll use it the rest of my life, and it’s the most generous thing anyone’s ever done for me.”

To help accomplish its first ‘from the ground up’ build, Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors is partnering with the Unions. The Unions involved include: Carpenters, Floorcoverers, Cement Masons, Tile Setters, Brick Layers, Electricians and Insulators through Homeco Insulators.
